Will Teams Hire More ST Coordinators as HC?
.@fbgchase (FP) wonders if w the success of John Harbaugh teams will start to hire more ST coordinators as HC. Benefits: don’t focus on one side of ball, OC/DCs more likely to join knowing they will have more autonomy. Link

Where New York Giants Can Improve in 2013
.@CaptainComeback (BR) looks at where Giants can improve in 2013. 2012 saw big wins (Packers, 49ers 2 of their 4 +25 point wins) combined w bad losses (Bengals, Falcons, Ravens). Eli Manning has stellar record of 4Q wins and in games where other team held under 20 pts. But, too often in 2012, games were out of hand too early. Pass rush overly dependent on Jason Pierre-Paul’s health. Need to keep on/off switch “on” more often to keep them in more games. Link
Minnesota Vikings Still Searching for Middle Linebacker
.@TomPelissero (1500 ESPN) says Vikings wanted to draft MLB but supply didn’t meet demand, so they still have work to do. Alec Ogletree, Kevin Minter, Manti Te’o all had shortcomings that dropped them below their first three picks on their board. Erin Henderson best in house option but not ideal. Free Agent like Desmond Bishop an option. It’s clear they still want to upgrade. Link
Film Room: Browns RB Trent Richardson’s Rookie Season
.@BrendanLeister (@DraftBrowns) breaks down film on Browns RB Trent Richardson’s mistakes during rookie season. By PFF standards, he had 3 good games, 9 avg, 3 bad. Often displayed poor vision, hesitance, or played slower than NFL level. Trouble following blocks or designed holes. Talent there but needs to match it w mental game. Link

Mike Lombardi’s Rule of 50 Debunked
.@fbgchase (FP) takes apart Mike Lombardi’s “Rule of 50,” aka 50 pass completions + rushes likely lead to victory, implying that is the victory that creates the stats, not vice versa. For example, simply rushing 30 times seen in even more percentage of victory. So are knee downs in the second half and a handful of other game stats that come with having a lead. Link
Film Room: Aldon Smith’s Pass Rush
.@Cianaf (PSR) applies his pass rush film study to Aldon Smith to see if he was creating his sacks or simply the beneficiary of the players around him. Showed great power in bull rush combined with reach, swim moves, rip. Tools there but need refinement. But, didn’t beat any truly great linemen, 7 of his sacks came without a block, rarely off double teams. To become elite pass rusher once he is main focus, must develop better technique to go with impressive physicality. Link

San Francisco 49ers 2013 Preview (Walter Football)
.@walterfootball previews 49ers 2013 season. On O, all still revolves around grading run O Line. On D, pass rush masks weak secondary; ILBs heart and soul of unit. LBs, coaching get 5 stars; secondary 2. Can Jim Harbaugh keep Colin Kaepernick from a Sophomore slump? Link
Film Room: NFL’s Top Cornerbacks
.@Cianaf (PSR) after extensive tape study gives his top Cornerback rankings w \commentary by some of the best writers around. Darrelle Revis, Richard Sherman, Leon Hall, Stephon Gilmore, Brandon Flowers, Johnathan Joseph, Champ Bailey, Casey Hayward, Patrick Peterson, Joe Haden. Cian also provides a series of tests to determine how each did vs different WR types (ie Randy Moss Test, Hines Ward Test, etc). Link
Michael Lombardi’s NFL Rule of 50
.@JoeFortenbaugh (NFP) explores Browns GM Michael Lombardi’s Rule of 50. That is, if your completions and carries total 50, your likelihood of victory increases exponentially. Top ten tms in comp + rushing in 2012 had .631 winning %. Only 5 times in last 5 years did a top ten team have losing record. Link
NFL Division Challengers
.@Harrison_NFL gives the biggest threats to incumbent division champs. Dolphins, Bengals, Colts, Chargers, Cowboys, Bears, Saints, Seahawks. Link
Washington Redskins: Why They Will & Won’t Win NFC East
.@Rich_Campbell (Wash Times) gives 5 reasons Redskins will win NFC East, 5 reasons they won’t. Will: RGIII, improved secondary depth, players returning from injury, continuity, data from last year. Won’t: RGIII’s health, unlikely to repeat last yr’s O Line health, defensive personnel shortcomings, got a little luck last yr, NFCE tough. Link
